The Power of Interoception - What You Feel Within
Hi, I am Jackie Mason the founder of an approach based on the brain’s eighth sensory system. The approach helps people and animals overcome compromised functionality due to injury, trauma, misuse, and neurological events and conditions.
The eighth sensory system - interoception - is defined as what you feel from within. I address one particular area of interoception: what muscles you feel as you move. The focus is on movement because, as science has shown, it is the only reason we have a brain. Research shows all information enters the brain from the senses, and the senses are activated by movement. Movement is the source of how we learn. To get an idea of what you feel as you move close your eyes and slowly lift an arm up and down.
- Do you hold your breath as you lift?
- Is your breathing shallow or deep?
- Do your feet push into the floor as you lift?
- Does your jaw, neck, shoulders, or ribs contract as you lift?
Responding appropriately to what you feel means making adjustments that are congruent with the physics of how the body evolved to function in gravity. Have you been taught that feeling the burn, having sore muscles, and focusing on which muscles to use is the way to be fit and strong, or improve skills? You are more likely to injure yourself because what the brain expects you to do is release muscles you feel until eventually every function you do feels effortless.
Senses underlying all functionality
Five foundational senses are critical to all functionality:
- Feeling how to breathe as you evolved
- Feeling how to yield to the ground and through the joints within your body
- Feeling how to differentiate each skeletal component as you function to become optimally flexible
- Feeling how rotation is the optimal way to move in gravity and space
- Feeling how to use the ground or a surface to propel yourself in any direction

Personal Sessions are a great way to jump start your transition to optimal functionality. You can customize a program of sessions tailored specifically for your needs and desired outcome. Many clients have chosen options such as 2-week intensives to resolve pain and regain functionality after injury. Other clients choose to go more slowly so they can absorb and integrate the changes at their own speed.
Seminars and Workshops For Business and Groups
Seminars and workshops provide a generalized introduction to the approach. These can be organized into a series for those businesses that want to explore transformations within departments, divisions, or the entire organization.
Our workshops and seminars are generally 2-3 day intensives tailored to particular areas of interest for business such as leadership, employee wellness, team functionality, and creativity. Participants do various activities to highlight how they limit themselves and are shown what they can do to break through the limitations. The brain learning transforms every element of their lives personally and in how they interact with the group. As participants function better they find it helps them think more clearly and communicate with others with greater empathy and compassion.
Decision making becomes less rigid, more inclusive and creative, and it is easier to change and step outside the box of familiar habits and patterns. How to Get Trained
Our trainings are designed to give you a clear understanding of how you evolved to function and a practical set of tools to help you apply that knowledge for yourself and your clients. As you refine the approach for yourself you naturally gain more insight and creative ways to help others.
We offer several options to choose from:
1 year training
This is for people that would like to learn the approach.
3 month training
This is suited to people who have graduated from bodywork therapies and have practical experience. Through learning to function better you acquire tools to work with your clients in a more direct and powerful way.
6 week refresher training
This is for people practicing bodywork who would like some powerful tools to advance their practice. You have a library of advanced sessions to practice with your clients along with learning more about how to use your body optimally for greater effectiveness and comfort in sessions. This training is designed to give you an integral understanding of how the human structure is designed to function so that you can create unique new ways to work with your clients.
2 week activity specific workshop
People who are in specific sports, musicians, singers, horse riders, golf etc. learn how to integrate the five interoceptive senses to improve their particular sport or activity.
2 week pain remediation for medical professionals
This 2 week intensive is for medical professionals wishing to augment their knowledge with specific, concise approaches to help their clients recover from injury faster, reduce and eliminate pain, and improve overall comfort and functionality.
